Course description

The AS qualification is a one year course, separate from the two year A level course and consists of two examinations each lasting one and a half hours; both will deal with either Aspects of Comedy or Aspects of Tragedy, to be chosen by the teachers. Paper One is based on two drama texts, one of which has to be by Shakespeare. Paper Two examines the chosen aspect in one prose and one poetry text.

The A level qualification is a two year course which has three components: 1. Aspects of Comedy or Tragedy 2. Elements of Crime or Political and Protest Writing and 3. Coursework. All three components are examined in the final year of the course.

A2 Year:

In Paper 1 you will study three texts: one Shakespeare text; a second drama text and one further text, of which one must be written pre-1900. You will be assessed by a two and a half hour written examination which will include one passage-based question on a set Shakespeare text, one essay question based on the same text and one essay question linking the other two texts

In Paper 2 you will study three texts: one post-2000 prose text; one poetry text and one further text, one of which must be written pre-1900. The three hour written examination will include one compulsory question on an unseen passage, one essay question on a set text and one essay question which connects two texts

Coursework consists of the study of two texts: one poetry and one prose text, informed by study of a Critical Anthology.
