Theatre Studies A Level at Buxton Community School

Course description

At Buxton Community School we are also prepared to offer the A2/AS Theatre Studies to run alongside the BTEC Acting course. This is a highly academic course for which students must be able to act to a high standard, write extensive essays, study theatre practices in-depth, analyse live performances and realise play texts.

Course content

AS outline

  • Unit 1: Live Theatre Production Seen and Prescribed Play
  • Unit 2: Presentation of an Extract From a Play - Practical

A2 outline

  • Unit 3: Further Prescribed Plays Including Pre-Twentieth Century
  • Unit 4: Presentation of and Extract from a Play - Practical

Entry requirements

Entry into our 6th Form is based upon gaining a minimum of 5 A* - C at GCSE including at least a grade C in English and/or maths. BTEC courses will be taken into account in support of the 5 A*-C at GCSE. The minimum average points score for all subjects for entry into the 6th Form is 39.
