Photography A Level at Northgate High School

Course description

Study will fall into three main areas: Lens-based Photography, Experimental Darkroom Practice and Digital Imaging, predominantly using Photoshop. Maintaining visual work journals is an integral part of the course. All necessary technical aspects of the course will be taught, but students are expected to develop personal ideas through research and investigation, including demonstrating an understanding of the context of their own work and the work of others

Course content

The majority of lessons will be practical workshops with regular tutorials. There are many opportunities to visit galleries and engage with photography first-hand. There are guest speakers and an Open Studio policy throughout the day and after school.

Entry requirements

Subject specific entry requirements: GCSE grade C in Art. Each student will need to obtain a 35mm SLR camera with manual facilities and purchase paper for darkroom and digital printing. They will also need access to a digital camera – this does not need to be a DSLR. A task can be set for those without GCSE Art. For a copy of the task, please contact Miss Gladding.
