Art & Design (Fine Art) A Level at Hitchin Boys' School

Course description

These practical courses will enable you to develop the creative and intellectual skills for imaginative growth and to access the vast array of art and design further study and careers. It is an excellent complement to many other areas of study, as it teaches you to be analytical, to solve problems creatively and to gain a cultural awareness.

You will explore relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to Fine Art and may use traditional methods and/or digital techniques to produce Fine Art work. You will be expected to demonstrate specialisation in particular materials, media or processes. Drawing skills should be understood and developed as ways of recording and communicating intentions, ideas and emotions. There is an important focus is on your recording through using drawing or other appropriate visual forms.

AS level

You will have a choice of endorsed titles to choose from. Each is made up of one externally set task which will be internally marked and externally moderated. There will be a selection of themes and within each theme there will be a choice of textual and visual starting points, briefs and stimuli. You will be able to work entirely in non-digital media, entirely in digital media, or a combination of both.

A level

There is a choice of endorsed titles to choose from, each made up of two components. Both components are internally marked and externally moderated.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements to our Consortium are 5 A*-C at GCSE or equivalent, including Maths and English, for an advanced level or Level 3 course.
