Media : Cambridge Level 2 Extended Certificate (= 1.5 GCSEs) at Regent College

Course description

Key Features
The course is focused on practical skills and will contribute towards a portfolio of work that might be used as part of your application for a job or further study in a related field. One unit, however, ‘Introducing Media Products and Audiences’, is more research-led and requires greater skills of analysis.

Teaching Styles
A lot of the course is practical and requires you to complete tasks. This will include: working individually or in groups; researching and presenting information; using camera equipment and editing software; and planning and developing creative work. There will also be lots of opportunity for classroom discussion.

Course content

At level two, you have the option to do a Cambridge Technical Level 2 Extended Certificate in Media.

This will include the following units:

1. Introducing Media Products and Audiences (10 credits)
2. Planning and Producing a Media Product (10 credits)
3. Print-Based Advertising Media (10 credits) These units will be confirmed when you enrol.

Entry requirements

Five grade Ds or 3s at GCSE, or equivalent, including Grade D or 3 in English and Mathematics. Students will benefit from having developed some ICT skills and awareness prior to the course, but this is not essential.

Assessment

There are four grades available: Pass, Merit, Distinction, and Distinction*. The course is assessed completely through coursework.

Financial information

Free to home students.

Future opportunities

The Extended Certificate is equivalent to 1.5 GCSEs. A pass or above will therefore help you progress onto Level 3 BTEC courses, provided you meet the other entry requirements
