Basic Construction Skills Entry Level 3 at City of Wolverhampton College

Course description

If you are thinking about a career in construction but are unsure about which path to choose, our Basic Construction Skills course can help set you on the right path. The qualification offers you the opportunity to study a range of construction skills as well as other subjects. You could be learning how to fix a skirting, hang an internal door, bend copper piping, or prepare and paint a wall. You don’t need to have any experience, just a willingness to have a go.

Course content

During this course you can study the following options: •Introducing brickwork skills •Introducing site carpentry skills •Introducing cabinet making skills •Introducing finishing skills (for plastering) •Introducing paint finishing skills.

There are no entry requirements for this course. You just need an interest in working in the construction industry.

    • The Wellington Road campus in Bilston, to the east of Wolverhampton, offers qualifications in trades such as bricklaying, carpentry, electrical installation, gas, painting and decorating, and plumbing; as well as courses in accountancy, computing and IT, counselling, early years, English, maths, sport and leisure, travel and tourism and uniformed public services.

      The campus is also home to a state-of-the-art Construction Innovation Centre complete with a gas training and assessment centre and purpose built areas for practical work in a range of trades, a modern Community Sport Centre kitted out with a 3G floodlit football pitch and well-equipped gym, and a Spa Academy providing a range of pampering beauty treatments. The site is also the base for the popular Prince’s Trust programme for unemployed young people aged 16-25.

      The site has a Student Hub, Study Hub and cafeteria, as well as an on-site gym and nursery and a large free student car park, and is on a major bus route with a Midlands Metro stop nearby.
