Course description

Biology is an increasingly important subject in the modern world. It touches everyone's life through medical science and promises solutions to many of the world problems by: genetically engineering new drugs, devising fertility treatments, curing genetic diseases and developing new sources of food - to give just a few examples. It is such an enormous subject that it is now subdivided into many different fields such as: genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, environmental biology, physiology etc. Without doubt the biologists of the 21st Century are facing some exciting challenges.

For students who are curious about: modified foods, cloning, global warming, a cure for AIDS, or resistant bacteria this course may be of interest.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements are BB in Core and Additional Science or B in Biology and one other Science subject at GCSE. Ideally you should also have a B in GCSE Mathematics. You do not need to take GCSE Chemistry to take Biology at A Level but you are advised that A Level in Chemistry is often required for careers and Higher Education courses in biological Sciences.
