History A Level LEA at Invictus Sixth Form

Course description

Students choosing this course should have a keen interest in History across a wide range of topics. They must be willing to study themes and ideas across a 200 year period and also be able to focus on study for exams in both years 12 and 13.

History at A Level is challenging and thought provoking and will allow for personal choice in the coursework element of Year 13.

Students will be taught by subject specialists in small to medium sized teaching groups.

Course content

Component 1 - Breadth Study The Tudors : England 1485-1603

Component 2- Depth Study Democracy and Nazism: Germany 1918-1945

Component 3 – Historical Investigation (3000-5000 words)

Entry requirements

Specific Entry Requirements for this course ( in addition to at least 5 Grade 5s inc. English and Maths):

Grade 6 or above in History at GCSE is desirable

Assessment

AS: 2 papers each worth 50%

A: 2 papers worth 40% each and Historical Investigation worth 20%

Future opportunities

History A Level can lead to various degree subjects including History, Politics or Law. Careers include Teaching, Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, Retail Management and Law
