This is a course which allows you to develop your understanding of drama in a practical and flexible way. It will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills of drama whilst improving your communication and interpersonal abilities. 60% of the course is completed as written coursework with the final 40% awarded following an externally assessed practical examination. The course is organised into 3 units: UNIT 1 In this unit you will be using drama to explore ideas and issues in response to a drama text from another time or culture. You will: • take part in practical workshops / solo pieces and group pieces • produce a portfolio in which you will respond to, develop and evaluate your practical work UNIT 2 In this unit you will read and explore a whole play to gain an understanding of the ways in which playwrights, performers, directors and designers use drama to communicate their ideas. You will: • visit a live performance • take part in practical workshops • produce a portfolio in which you will respond to, develop and evaluate your practical work UNIT 3 This unit is worth 40% of your marks and you will be assessed by an external examiner on your performance.
