Course description

This is a pivotal qualification which provides a transition from general education to specialist Art & design study.

This course offers you the opportunity to explore a wide range of practical media, technical methods and a variety of theoretical ideas that are central to art and design in its contemporary context. It provides an intensive and realistic experience in a range of specialist areas and is organised in such a way that you are encouraged to build upon your previous experience whilst developing new skills, knowledge and understanding of your personal practice.

Entry requirements

For acceptance on to the course you will need to have a minimum of one A level or Extended Diploma plus a minimum of four GCSE's (Grade C or above) which should include Maths and English language or literature, coupled with a successful interview at which you will present a representative portfolio of work that demonstrates your present and potential ability. Applicants must be 18 years of age by August 31st in the year of joining the course programme. There minimum requirements may be varied for mature students by taking into account their prior experience and learning, commitment and potential.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and culminates in the Awarding of a Diploma at Pass, Merit or Distinction

Future opportunities

A wide variety of art, design and media occupations and careers exist in the creative industries sector of both the national and international economies. These range form commercial work in, for example, textiles, fashion, interior design, theatre, product and industrial design, advertising, televisual and film media and visual communications through to teaching and freelance or self-directed fine art and design practice. This course also aims to prepare you for entry to BA (Hons) degree or Higher National Diploma level study at college or university.
