Art & Design BTEC Level 3 at Chase High School
Level 3 BTEC Art & Design is a two-year course that is equivalent to A Levels at Grades A-E. Depending on the course, it is delivered through assignments that cover up to 18 units. There is no final exam and all work is teacher assessed.
During the course, you’ll be encouraged to keep a thorough visual record in sketchbooks, as well as exploring a wide range of different materials and techniques. You’ll demonstrate your skills through building a portfolio of work and researching professional practice in the art and design field.
We’ll expect you to show that you are fully committed by producing work and developing ideas on a continual basis.
he course consists of a mixture of mandatory and optional units, including:
- Unit 1 – Visual recording
- Unit 2 – Materials, techniques and processes
- Unit 3 – Ideas and concepts
- Unit 4 – Communication through art
- Unit 5 – Contextual influences
Some optional units to choose from:
- Unit 14 – Community art
- Unit 75 – Observational
- Unit 99 – Exploring resistant materials
- Unit 105 – Exploring metal and jewellery techniques
5 x GCSEs at Grades A*-C, including English and Maths or an equivalent Level 2 BTEC, with GCSE English and Maths
You could go on to study art and design at college or university. Potential careers range from fine art itself, art history, the craft industry or teaching, to game design, graphic design, photography, film production and special effects. You could explore the world of interior design, TV/theatre set design or fashion design, work in magazines, advertising and the media, or move into product or shop window design.
