Course content

People working in design, arts and crafts help to make the world around us a more attractive and a better place. Their creative and original ideas affect the appearance and usefulness of virtually everything around us. Art is an enjoyable course of study which is designed as a natural progression from the GCSE course. Students are encouraged to build on and extend previous ideas and experiences. The course develops practical skills by providing a range of experiences, and a variety of techniques, materials, equipment and resources. Creativity, originality and inventiveness through self expression are key elements of the course. Students are encouraged to present work professionally Students are shown how to criticise each others work constructively and evaluate the work of other artists, designers and craftspeople in relation to their own work.

Entry requirements

Students will need to prepare a portfolio to ensure entry into courses and careers in Art. At least a Grade C in Art and Design at GCSE level is required, as well as the ability to produce observational drawings to a high standard.
