Computer Science A Level at Haslingden High School, Specialist Arts, Maths and Computing College
This specification promotes the integrated study of computer science. It will enable learners to develop a broad range of skills in the areas of programming, system development, computer architecture, data, communication and applications, the practical application of knowledge and understanding and will require the use of Visual Basic. NET, Python or Java as a programming language.
- Unit 1: Fundamentals of computer science
- Unit 2: Practical programming to solve problems
- Unit 3: Programming and system development
- Unit 4: Computer architecture, data, communication
- Unit 5: Programmed solution to a problem
At least grade B at GCSE ICT or grade C at GCSE Computer Science. Suitability will be discussed at interview.
This course is assessed through examination (80%) and practical assessment (20%)
This specification encourages candidates to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge of computing as a basis for progression into further learning or employment in computing-related fields.
