Acting (BTEC Level 3) at New College Swindon
This is a vocational course and is designed for learners who want to eat, sleep and breathe Drama and Acting! It will introduce you to all the skills you will need to progress onto university, drama schools and ultimately pursue a career in acting. As outlined below, this course allows you to study over one or two years which makes it the perfect qualification for those wishing to study other A-Level/BTEC subjects alongside the course. We also allow learners to study the full subsidiary diploma in one year – this is suitable for learners taking a ‘gap’ year or as a ‘pre higher education’ course.
Examples of Units of study: -
Principles of Acting - You will discover key theatre practitioners and their practices such as Constantin Stanislavski and Bertolt Brecht and perform extracts from contrasting scripts.
Theatre in Education - You will have the opportunity to devise your own piece of Theatre and tour it around local schools.
Auditions for Actors - This will teach you about selecting, rehearsing and performing monologues. Ideal for those looking to audition for drama school and universities.
Performing to an Audience - Over the course of the year you will rehearse and perform a full length play and perform it at a local theatre.
Subject Specific Investigation - This is a theory unit where you will be required to research and present information on a theatrical subject that interests you.
Contemporary Theatre - This will introduce to modern theatre and you will have the opportunity to perform extracts from two different contemporary plays.
Normally, you will need to have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language and Drama/Performing Arts. In addition, all applicants will undertake an audition
The assessment of the units will require you to complete Portfolios, Actor's Logs alongside Performance assessments. There are no written exams.
