A Level Art and Design at The Elmgreen School
This is a broad course exploring practical and critical/contextual work through a range of 2D and/or 3D processes and new media and technologies. It is an unendorsed course where candidates can work in any art, craft and design materials and processes. Students produce practical and contextual work associated with two or more of the disciplines.
This provides students with a wide range of creative, exciting and stimulating opportunities to explore their interests in art and design in ways that are personally relevant. Students studying Art and Design will develop their creativity, imagination, practical and intellectual skills and will learn to respond visually to the world around them. The course equips students with the practical tools to put their visual ideas into practice. The skills developed in Art and Design are of practical use in many careers and are a source of pleasure in their own right.
Grade B in Art GCSE and a portfolio of work.
Unit 1: Portfolio of Work. Controlled Assessment – set and marked by the school and moderated by AQA. 80 marks – 60% Candidate portfolio selected from work undertaken during course of study and must include more than one project.
Unit 2: Externally Set Task. Question papers issued from 1 January. Marked by the school and moderated by AQA. 80 marks – 40% Unlimited preparation time. 10 hours of sustained focused study. Candidates respond to their chosen starting point.
Unit 3: Art and Design Coursework You produce practical work and an in-depth study of artists linked to your interests in art (min 1000 words)
Unit 4: Art and Design Externally Set Assignment. Preparation: 8 – 10 weeks. 12 hours timed realisation
