FLEX VOTE at Wakefield College

Course description

FLEX VOTE is a suite of programmes designed to improve your personal, social skills, employability skills, maths and English as well as an opportunity to sample different vocational tasters. FLEX VOTE will help you to develop the skills you need to progress onto a Level 1 vocational course or supported internship,  and to make informed choices on your direction on career options.  You will receive a detailed profile of the progress you make during the course.

Upon your assessment of work readiness, there may be work experience opportunities that will progress skills towards sustainable employment.

Personal & Social Skills
Employability Skills
Vocational Options
ICT (E3 level)

How you will learn

By a variety of practical sessions, educational visits and classroom based  learning.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements as this course can accommodate and be tailored to suit your needs based on your current levels of English and maths.


By a variety of means which could include:

* Portfolio building
* Production of practical work
* Assessment tests

You will take external qualifications in English and maths and will complete an accredited course at your level of study, which include either an Award and Extended Award (at Entry 2 or Entry 3) or Certificate (at Entry 3) in Employability.  Personal Development is also an inclusive part of the qualification. You will also receive Wakefield College certificates for elements of the course which are not externally assessed.

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students.

Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course

The aim of FLEX VOTE is to help you to develop skills, improve your confidence and increase your self-esteem to help you progress to a Level 1 vocational course of your choice. 

The programme also opens up possible opportunities for the College's Supported Employment Training provision.

    • The Waterton Building (Postcode WF1 2EW)

      Situated less than a mile from Wakefield Westgate Train station and the main College campus, the Waterton Building houses the Performing Arts provision at Wakefield College. With over £1m spent in 2012 on this facility, the Waterton Building offers performance space, dance and drama studios and classrooms, plus industry standard equipment and facilities for our students.

      The pinnacle of the building is the superb new professional 220 seat theatre venue.
