AS Level Unit 1- FM1: You are to complete one analysis of how meaning is created in an extract from a film of your own choice. You will also complete one creative project based on a film sequence or a short film. This work is coursework and is internally assessed and externally moderated. Unit 2- FM2: A study of British and American Film. You will study the following three areas: - producers and audiences, British film and a comparative study of two American Films. This is an externally assessed unit and consists of a written paper. A2 Level Unit 3- FM3 This unit consists of film research and creative project work. You will complete a research project based on a film of your choice. You will be asked to consider stars, genre, production or technology. Your creative project could be a short film or screenplay. This unit is coursework and is internally assessed and externally moderated. Unit 4- FM4 In this unit you will study varieties of film experiences. There are three areas to study: - world cinema topics, film spectatorship topics and a critical study of a single film. This is externally assessed and consists of a written paper. Assessment * You must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and understanding of film as an audio visual form of creative expression across different historical periods and locations. * Apply knowledge and understanding to show meanings and responses are generated. Demonstrate an ability to devise film projects creatively applying planning and production skills effectively. * Demonstrate the ability to undertake, use and present research into film topics. Additional course information An ability and enthusiasm to study films and research ideas for creative work. You must be able to work independently and be prepared to do at least five extra hours of private study each week. This is an option you should consider if you intend to pursue a career in the film industry.
