Business & Management IBD at The Abbey School
The business management course is designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of business management and theories, as well as their ability to apply a range of tools and techniques. Students learn to analyse, discuss and evaluate business activities at local, national and international levels. The course covers a range of organisations from all sectors, as well as the cultural and economic contexts in which those organisations operate and a focus on the ethical concerns they face.
The course is composed of five units:
Unit 1 - Business Organisation and Environment
Unit 2 - Human Resource Management
Unit 3 - Finance and Accounts
Unit 4 - Marketing
Unit 5 – Operations Management.
5 9- in GCSEs.
Assessment on the course is both internal and external.
The external element consists of two written exam papers and accounts for 75% of the final grade.
The internal element is assessed through a written commentary on a real issue facing a particular organisation and accounts for 25% of the final grade.
The business management course prepares you for a career in business, which may stretch across any sector or industry. Your career options are therefore varied and may include roles in industries as diverse as chemicals, utilities, fashion, health, grocery and construction as they all require functional managers with a clear understanding of systems, efficiency and operational issues.
Students can use their qualification to gain employment directly from school, to apply for apprenticeships or to study business related course in Higher Education.
