BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Art and Design at Kingston College

Course description

This one year course offers the opportunity to work with a wide variety of art and design materials, techniques, processes and subjects and to gain valuable skills in art and design. Alongside the course you will be able to retake those all-important English and Maths GCSEs. It will help you to identify your personal strengths and your area of interest allowing you to apply to study at Level 3.

Course content

The course provides a broad knowledge and understanding of 2D and 3D Art & Design. It will help you gain skills in a variety of specialist areas, including 3D Design, Graphic Design, Fashion, Photography, Digital Design and Visual Arts.

There are visits to galleries, museums and other places of interest.

The programme includes Mathematics and English at an applicable level.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade E/2 or above including English and/or Mathematics, a satisfactory reference and an applicant’s potential (evidenced through an interview and portfolio) to benefit from the course. Other relevant qualifications and experience will be taken into account.

Assessment

The course is unit based and assessments are made throughout.

Future opportunities

Level 3 Extended Diploma in either Art & Design, Games, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Photography, Interactive Media, Fashion and Clothing or other Level 3 areas. Learners may progress directly to employment.

Further information

Most materials and equipment will be provided; however, you will be expected to pay for some of your equipment and materials.  There will also be a number of trips and visits which will incur some travel and entry costs.
