Students will enjoy this challenging and demanding subject if they have been successful in their mathematical studies at GCSE level. In particular students will need a strong ability in algebraic skills.

The course is based on a balance of Pure and Applied Mathematics with Applied Mathematics being split into Mechanics and Statistics.
In Pure Mathematics you will study Proof, Algebra and functions, Coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, Sequences and series, Trigonometry, Exponentials and logarithms, Differentiation, Integration, Vectors and Numerical methods.
Quantities and units in mechanics, Kinematics, Forces and Newton’s laws, Moments.
Statistical sampling, Data presentation and interpretation, Probability, Statistical distributions, Statistical hypothesis testing.
Mathematics GCSE grade 7 followed by a suitability test in the first week of the course.
£30.00 deposit to cover all text books to be paid on enrolment day. This will be refunded at the end of your course once your books have been returned to the subject teacher.
£5.00 non-refundable payment for an Access Key Fob to access Gable Hall School, Sixth Form and St Clere's School.
Career prospects for students with Mathematics A level are excellent and it is used in a number of fields as well as being a prerequisite for many technical higher education courses such as Engineering. It is also useful for many degree courses such as Medicine.
Statistics is particularly beneficial in Psychology and Sociology courses which draw heavily on the interpretation of data.
Mathematics A level prepares you for careers in Education, Business, Finance and Government, and is a qualification that is much valued by employers.
