FLEX VOTE (Vocational Options, Tasters and Employability) at Wakefield College

Course description

FLEX VOTE is a suite of programmes designed to improve your personal, social skills, employability skills, maths and English as well as an opportunity to sample different vocational tasters. FLEX VOTE will help you to develop the skills you need to progress onto a Level 1 vocational course and to make informed choices on your direction on career options.  You will receive a detailed profile of the progress you make during the course.

Upon your assessment of work readiness, there may be work experience opportunities that will progress skills towards sustainable employment.

What you will study

Your programme of study will concentrate on improving and developing:-

Personal & Social Skills
Employability Skills
Maths/Numeracy
English/Literacy
Vocational Options

How you will learn

By a variety of practical sessions, educational visits and classroom based  learning.

Entry requirements

This course can accommodate and be tailored to suit your needs based on your current levels of English and maths.

Assessment

By a variety of means which could include:

* Portfolio building
* Production of practical work
* Assessment tests

You will take external qualifications in English and maths and will complete an accredited course at your level of study, which include either an Award and Extended Award (at Entry 2 or Entry 3) or Certificate (at Entry 3) in Employability.  Personal Development is also an inclusive part of the qualification. You will also receive Wakefield College certificates for elements of the course which are not externally assessed.

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residential etc. which are payable by all students.

Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international students.

The aim of FLEX VOTE is to help you to develop skills, improve your confidence and increase your self-esteem to help you progress to a Level 1 vocational course of your choice.

The programme also opens up possible opportunities for the College's Supported Employment Training provision.

      The Castleford Campus (previously known as the skillsXchange) houses the College’s provision in Construction, Motor Vehicle, Engineering, Hair and Beauty, IT and some Care and replaces the training which was previously offered at the College’s Whitwood Campus.

      Located at Junction 32 of the M62 between Castleford and Pontefract, the site is well known for Xscape, the indoor ski slope whose building houses a 14-screen cinema, bowling alley, climbing wall, sports facilities and restaurants. The Campus is situated directly next to the Asda in Glasshoughton.


      A learning resource centre, equipped with the very latest in technology, is a superb place for individual study, or to relax and use the internet. The Centre overlooks the large external courtyard, where students can mix, mingle and chill.

      In state-of-the-art hair and beauty salons, including a nail bar, we are training the next generation of hairdressers and beauticians. These professional salons offer live training environments to our students, with treatments for both men and women available at affordable prices. There are also industry standard facilities for the study of construction and engineering, motor vehicle and electrical courses.
