Art and Design A-Level at The Coleshill School

Course description

Students who enjoyed Art GCSE and want to develop Artistic skills further. This dynamic A Level course develops your creative problem solving skills and requires you to work with motivation and determination. This course leads to a wide range of prospective careers for example Fine Artist, Illustrators, Photographer or Art Editor.

Course content

You will explore skills based work initially, expanding on both two and three dimensional skills. Students then begin to explore ideas surrounding how title can be used to support Art work. Students create a body of work that investigates various themes and genres.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements to A Level Courses are 5 A* to C grades at GCSE including English and Maths.

Subject Specific

Grade B at GCSE Art is preferred

Assessment

Unit 1

Thematic Work AS Level 60%, A Level 30%

Unit 2

External Assignment; students are issued with an examination paper which will have one starting point to create a project from. AS Level 40% A Level 20%

Unit 3

Personal Investigation of a chosen theme and Artist A Level 30%

Unit 4

External Assignment – 15 hours assignment under examination conditions that tests the ability to plan, develop and experiment with ideas. A Level 20%
