Child Development and Care Level 2 BTEC at Deanery High School and Sixth Form College
This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children from birth to 5 years of age. It includes the knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being necessary for working with children in a variety of settings. It also gives learners an insight into their preferred learning styles and assists in developing their ability to study It allows learners to 250 hours be spent in a practical experience in a real work environment and can usually be completed in one year.
You do not need to have had any previous experience of child development and/or Health and Social Care courses at school. There are 3 units to study, two of which are internally assessed and one is a multiple choice question test. The units are:- • An introduction to working with children aged 0-5 years • Development and well-being 0-5 years • Child care and development 0-5 years
5 or more GCSE Grade 3 or better
This qualification includes: • An awareness of learning styles • A basic introduction in to working with children in a variety of settings • An understanding of roles and responsibilities when working in a setting • An understanding of Equality and Diversity within a childcare setting • A basic understanding of the stages and sequence of child development • An introduction to observing children and how it supports development • An introduction to the influences that affect holistic development • An introduction to everyday care routines and the types of activities that can support the development of independence an introduction to supporting children through transition.
Students who need to resit Maths and/or English follow a one year programme of Level 2 BTECs including Travel & Tourism, Public Services and Engineering.
On successful completion of the year the student may progress onto Level 3 courses.
With this qualification and other GCSE requirements you can progress onto the Level 3 National Diploma/Certificate/Award in Child Care or prepare for employment in the child care sector.

All students in the UK are now required to be working towards a Grade 4 in English Language and Maths.
