Sport: BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport Performance & Excellence (Block E) at The Folkestone Academy

Course description

While the National Extended Certificate is the equivalent of one A level, the National Diploma is the equivalent of two. In addition to the four units covered as part of the National Extended Certificate, you will cover a further six units.

 

Course content

This course comprises ten units, nine of which are mandatory and two of which are assessed externally.

Unit 1 (M) - Anatomy & physiology

Unit 2 (M) - Fitness training and programming for health, sport and well-being

Unit 3 (M) - Professional development in the sports industry

Uni 7 - Practical sports performance

Unit 5 - Application of fitness testing 

Unit 8 - Coaching for performance

Unit 22 (M) - Investigation business in sport and active leisure

Unit 23 (M) - Skill acquisition in sport

Unit 4 (M) - Sports leadership

Entry requirements

GCSE at Grade 5+ or BTEC/NCFE at Merit+ in a sport- related discipline, as well as 4+ in GCSE Core Science and 4+ in GCSE English. Candidates without a Level 2 qualification in a sport-related discipline will be considered through interview.

Unit 1 - Written examination (1h 30m) externally assessed (18%)

Unit 2 - Assignment - set and assessed externally (16.5%)

Unit 3 - Assignment - set and assessed internally (8.5%)

Unit 7 - Assignment - set and assessed internally (8.5%)

Unit 5 - Assignment - set and assessed internally (8.5%)

Unit 8 - Assignment - set and assessed internally (8.5%)

Unit 22 - Assignment - set and assessed internally (12.5%)

Unit 23 - Assignment - set and assessed internally (12.5%)

Unit 4 - Assignment - set and assessed internally (8.5%)

 
 

Future opportunities

As with the National Extended Certificate, this course provides excellent progression routes into HE or employment.
