Course description

Build up a huge range of skills with our Construction Maintenance Operations Intermediate Level 2 Apprenticeship and qualify as a maintenance operative. You will get a broad base of knowledge and build up a large amount of experience in the general maintenance industry.

This multi-skilled construction Apprenticeship will equip you with a broad range of skills and enable you to develop the practical experience and knowledge required for maintenance operations, including Carpentry & Joinery, Brickwork, Painting & Decorating, Plastering and Plumbing. Aimed at people who are working for a construction firm, developing property or working in a general maintenance role, this qualification will equip you with the skills to carry out both interior and exterior property maintenance practices.

Course content

Level 2 Diploma/NVQ in Construction Maintenance Operations units include:
• Erect & Dismantle Working Platforms 
• Prepare Surfaces & Apply Paint by Brush & Roller 
• Renew Drainage Components 
• Renew Rainwater Components 
• Renew Wall & Floor Tiling 
• Repair Masonry 
• Repair Plaster Finishes to Walls & Ceilings  
Additional Study
• Functional Skills in Maths & English 
• Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) 
• Employee Rights & Responsibilities 
• You may also complete units such as; Safety and Use of Abrasive Wheels 

Entry requirements

  • Employment within the industry 
  • 3 GSES 9-3 (A*-D)


You will attend College one day per week, plus in some cases occasional periods of block release. Periodically an assessor will visit you in the workplace to carry out on-site assessments. You will prepare work based evidence and be assessed across a range of activities to demonstrate the development of your skills and knowledge.
