A Level Further Mathematics at Ricards Lodge High School

Course description

Further Mathematics is a rigorous subject which develops and extends the topics covered in A Level Mathematics. It is an ideal preparation for students who want to follow degrees such as Engineering and Physics that require a high level of mathematical ability.

Course content

AS: Mechanics 1, Mechanics 2, Further Pure Mathematics 1
A2: Mechanics 3, Statistics 2, Further Pure Mathematics 2

Entry requirements

GCSE Mathematics Grade A in GCSE Mathematics supported by an A to D grade in Additional Mathematics or an A* in Further Maths GCSE. Please note, students who wish to study this A’ Level must also study A’ Level Mathematics and choose the Mathematics and Statistics option. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.

Assessment

Each module is tested by a written exam in June at end of the year in which the module is taught. Re-sits will be available only in June of the following year.

Future opportunities

Further Mathematics is a highly regarded academic subject which would be useful for any career involving high level of numerical ability and logical, analytical or creative thinking. If you intend to study Mathematics, Physics or Engineering at university then it is often advisable to study Further Mathematics to AS or A Level.
