Course description

During the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship you will be working on a construction site or in domestic and commercial premises.

As a Site Carpenter you could be working on a construction site or in domestic and commercial premises, given specifications to carry out first and second fixing, erecting complex structural carcassing components, such as trussed rafter roofs and traditional cut roofs.

 

Course content

Bench Joinery topics include:

  • making doors
  • windows, frames
  • kitchen and bedroom units and stairs
  • Level 2 Diploma Technical Certificate
  • CITB Health and Safety
  • plus Key Skills in Application of Number and Communication.

Site Carpentry topics include:

  • fixing floors
  • roofs
  • timber partitions
  • doors, frames
  • skirtings and finishings
  • units and fitments
  • Level 2 Diploma Technical Certificate
  • CITB Health and Safety
  • plus Key Skills in Application of Number and Communication.

Entry requirements

You should be working in the industry and interested in developing your skills. Good GCSEs are an advantage.

 

Assessment

Continuous assessment throughout the course. You create a portfolio of evidence in the workplace and will undertake a small number of unit exams at College.

 

Future opportunities

As a site carpenter, you could find yourself working in many different places – from construction sites to large developments.

As a bench joiner you could be employed in domestic and commercial premises. Job prospects are good, with plenty of scope for self-employment.
