Psychology GCE AS / A2 at Virgo Fidelis Convent Senior School
The course runs over two years, the first year also serving as a stand alone qualiication. Over the two years students will complete four modules.
Module1 - Cognitive and Developmental Psychology and Research methods.
Module 2 - Psychological psychology, Individual differences and Social Psychology.
Module 3 - Social, Developmental and Comparitive Psychology.
Module 4 - Psychopathology, Psychology in action and Research methods.
A minimum of Six A*-C at GCSEs including B in English and Mathematics
The AS qualification is comprised of the first two modules. Examination for module 2 is in January with module 1 being assessed in May.
THe examinations for each module are one hour and a half long and consists of short structured questions followed by mini essay questions.
The A2 qualification is comprised of 2 modules, which are essay based examinations
The examination for module 3 is in January with module 4 being assessed in June.
Throughout both years students are monitored in class via examination condition essays and weekly presentations/essays prepared at home.
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as a science or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Psychology, which could lead you onto higher education to study Psychology or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Psychology and people such as a Counsellor, Nurse or Psychologist. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
