Government and Politics A Level at Roding Valley High School

Course description

We are living in a world that is rapidly and constantly changing. Politics and the role of government underpin much of this change, from the implementation of new laws, giving or limiting rights and freedoms, to the complete upheaval of entire political systems. By exploring the fundamental structure of our own government as well as discovering the ideologies that form the foundation of political theory, we can understand the complex nature and impact of these changes to the 21st century.

Course content

You will explore the structures of authority and power within the political system of the United Kingdom. This will include an evaluative study of the nature of democracy and political participation, and the structure of governance in the UK political system. As the course develops you will examine political ideologies, exploring differing views, doctrines and theories, and evaluate the impact of these ideologies on societies and states

University degrees that require or often prefer Government & Politics include:

History, Law, Politics, English, Modern Foreign language degrees, European studies and American studies.
