Course description

Would you like a career in engineering? Could you benefit from a practical course?

This course is designed for students who have limited knowledge of engineering, and want to learn more. It prepares you to start your career, covering general and specialised aspects of this exciting area.

The course is gives you a varied introduction to engineering. You will learn through practical work, with classroom sessions to help build your knowledge.

Course content

The course is delivered through a blend of the following:

  • Practical workshop sessions
  • Classroom sessions
  • Student centred work
  • Demonstrations
  • Discussions
  • Virtual learning environment (MOODLE)
  • Tutorials

Entry requirements

  • Formal qualifications not required
  • Suitability to the course should be displayed in an interview with the course tutor, where your experience in the subject area, basic skills ability, enthusiasm and willingness to learn will be considered
  • Places on the programme are subject to interview

Assessment

The programme will be assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Assignments
  • Short tests
  • Portfolio work

Future opportunities

Candidates who are successful on this programme will, in September 2015, be eligible to enrol on the Candamp;G Level 2 NVQ Diploma Electrical Power Engineering – Wind Turbine.

This is a practical-based qualification giving the candidates the skills needed to work on wind turbines. The NVQ is currently only available on a part-time basis.

Alternatively candidates can apply for technician posts in the wind industry or apprenticeships.
