Media Studies at Felixstowe Academy

Course description

Students who successfully complete this course can expect to progress onto a variety of interesting media related courses at higher education. The media industry also offers a wide range of exciting and challenging careers related to television, newspapers, film and increasingly the internet.

Course content

This is a six unit course with three units being taken in the first year and three in the second. There are three core units which have to be covered e.g

  • Unit 1 - Pre-production techniques for the creative media industries.
  • Unit 2 - Communication skills for creative media production.
  • Unit 3 - Research techniques for the creative media industries.

The following options will be taken to make up the full qualification:

  • Unit 26 - Film studies
  • Unit 30 - Advertisement production for television unit 34 2D animation production.

Other options may be available to support the interests of the group.

 

Entry requirements

Normally 5 A* - C's at GCSE or the equivalent.

Assessment

All of the assessment is carried out by coursework assignments. There are no examinations in this subject.

Future opportunities

The course will provide the students with opportunities to experience a range of media in order to develop case studies for their course but also explore the diverse nature of the industry and the employment opportunites it can provide.
