A Level Art and Design at The Cottesloe School

Course description

You will follow a course of integrated practical, critical and theoretical study using a variety of media and processes.

Course content

Component 1: Portfolio / Personal Investigation Emphasis is on the development of understanding and skills and will include at least one extended project. This component is worth 60% of the A Level. Within the second year students are expected to demonstrate a greater depth of study and might achieve this by greater specialisation in a particular medium or develop individual themes.

Component 2: Externally set assignment Question papers are provided from AQA, students select one from a choice of questions and develop their own work from the chosen starting point. This component is worth 40% of the A Level.

Evidence of meeting all the assessment objectives must be provided in both components. Work is marked by the Art Department and then moderated by AQA during a visit to the school in June.

Further information

You will be expected to provide many of your own materials (essential as you will do a large amount of work at home), and to make regular gallery visits to see work first-hand and very importantly to have a real passion for Art.
