BTEC Diploma in Business at The Rushden Community College

Course description

The BTEC Diploma in Business allows students to develop a broad range of business skills. It provides a sound basis on which to start a business career or to follow a modern apprenticeship course. It enables students to develop creative and analytical thinking through investigating organisations and their use of business systems and procedures in the course of their day-to-day activities. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the key areas of business activity through assignment work as well as practical experiences. All assessed work is assignment based so there are no external examinations.

Course content

Students will focus on six units of work which include:

  • Exploring Business Purposes
  • Developing customer relations
  • Investigating Financial control
  • Business communications
  • People in organisations
  • Starting a small business

Entry requirements

Suitable for students obtaining D and E grades at GCSE.

Assessment

Each unit of work will be assessed in one of the following ways:

Internally set and assessed coursework (portfolio)

External assignment set by the examination board

Further information

This course is designed to develop a number of personal qualities that all employers look for in young people today. These qualities include development of independent research and analysis skills, interpersonal, communication and good time managements skills. It is suitable for those students who wish to go on to further education or who seek employment in industry.
