Course description

Full time course for students over 16.

Entry requirements

 

 

 

Ideally GCSE grade A*-B in Art, Art Graphics or Product Design. Students who have not previously studied any of the above in their GCSE choices would be considered by presenting a portfolio of creative skills.

Assessment

 

AS Course H201 Fine Art, H203 Photography & H202 Graphic Design

100% Externally Set Task - no assessed coursework element

  1. Question paper released in January (available from Jan 2016)
  2. One question selected from a range of starting points & stimuli
  3. Research & developmental studies leading to a 10 hour practical response in May
  4. Internally assessed and externally moderated

 

A Level Course H201 Fine Art, H203 Photography & H202 Graphic Design

60% Personal Investigation and related study

  1. Practical coursework project responding to a theme by candidate/centre
  2. A related written study of continuous prose with minimum 1,000 words
  3. Internally assessed and externally moderated

40% Externally Set Task

  1. Question paper released in February (available from Feb 2017)
  2. One question selected from a range of starting points & stimuli
  3. Research & developmental studies leading to a 15 hour practical response in May
  4. Internally assessed and externally moderated (awaiting accreditation)

Future opportunities

 

Typographic Design and compositional layout is a core aspect of the course which will be beneficial in many career paths beyond being a Graphic Designer. Web Design, Advertising, Architecture, multimedia presentation skills would all be enhanced by in-depth Graphic Communication studies.
