English Language A level at Wadham School

Course description

Students suited to this course will have an enquiring mind, attention to detail, the ability to be creative, a critical eye, perseverance and good organisational skills.

Entry requirements

One of your 5+ A*-C passes at GCSE should be in English.


Exam Board - OCR

The A-Level course comprises of two papers and a piece of coursework:

Paper 1: Exploring Language, 40%

Paper 2: Dimensions of Linguistic Variation, 40%

Coursework: Independent Language Research, 20% An AS-Level one year course is designed to be co-teachable alongside the two year course.

Future opportunities

Many careers can be accessed using A-Level English Language. Career opportunities could include being a journalist, screenwriter, editor and teacher. The media and publishing are fruitful areas of employment.
