Hairdressing City & Guilds Certificate Level 1 at Bracknell and Wokingham College

Course description

This full-time course is ideal for school leavers to train and gain basic skills in the first year. You will study units covering the essential theory, knowledge and practical skills that contribute to the hair and beauty industry: • Reduce risks to health and safety • Contribute to the development of effective working relationships • Preparing the work area for hair services • Shampoo and condition hair • Assist with reception duties • Blow dry hair • Assist with colouring You will be working with a range of clients in the college’s fully-equipped hair salons.

Course content

You will study six units in total covering the essential theory, knowledge and practical skills that contribute to the hair and beauty industry: • Reduce risks to health and safety • Contribute to the development of effective working relationships • Preparing the work area for hair services • Shampoo and condition hair • Assist with reception duties • Blow dry hair You will be working with a range of clients in the college’s fully-equipped salons.

Entry requirements

• GCSE grades D-G, which must include a GCSE in English Language • If you do not have a grade C in GCSE English Language and maths you will be required to be working towards achieving this alongside your course

Future opportunities

• Further study - on successful completion of the course, you can be invited to progress to Level 2 Hairdressing or Beauty therapy, and a good tutor report • You may wish to progress to a Hairdressing Apprenticeship
