Engineering BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 at Wilberforce College

Course description

This is an exciting course that gives you the chance to learn how to use some of the skills that are needed by engineers. Throughout your work on the qualification you will learn and experience a wide range of exciting and highly-skilled practical processes and theory work. You will also learn important workplace skills like interpreting Engineering information correctly, so that you will be able to read design specifications in a workplace context. The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma course is an ideal stepping stone to a university course in Engineering or going straight into an exciting and financially rewarding career.

Course content

Units (Year One):
The units of this course are to include:

  • Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace
  • Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
  • Fabrication Processes and Technology

Units (Year Two):
The second year units are likely to include:

  • Mechanical Principles and Applications
  • Engineering Finishing Techniques
  • Engineering Drawing for Technicians

Entry requirements

4 A*-C grades at GCSE including a minimum of grade C in GCSE Mathematics and Science (or equivalent L2 Science course) and a minimum of grade D in GCSE English Language.


Completely through work done in the classroom – there isn’t any sort of exams at the end.
