Performing Arts AS/A at Ormskirk School

Course description

This is an exciting vocational subject which provides a suitable route for progression for candidates completing GCSE Drama or Performing Arts. The subject can also be undertaken by students beginning their formal education in Performing Arts, subject to GCSE grades, availability of places and individual suitability for such a course (those that can demonstrate an enthusiasm for the subject and may additionally have appropriate qualifications or experience from either in or out of school). Students will have a wide range of opportunities to learn about this massive industry and create their own performances in groups to a high standard of professionalism. The specification in Performing Arts, aims to encourage candidates to develop broad skills, knowledge and understanding of the performing arts sectors and aims to prepare candidates for further study or training in performing arts related occupations. To this end, candidates will be expected to develop appropriate materials (such as portfolios, show reels, photos or audition pieces) that support progression.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level subjects such as an Applied GCE in Business to prepare for higher education, BTEC Higher Nationals or NVQ Levels 3 and 4 in areas of the Performing Arts or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to the Performing Arts such as a Chorographer, Teacher, Theatre Director, or you may wish to perform on the stage. The course will also help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
