NVQ Hairdressing at Ysgol Emrys Ap Iwan

Course description

A full-time two year course training in various technical treatments including: shampooing hair, cutting, styling and dressing hair, colouring and perming hair. The qualifications also cover customer service, reception duties and all health and safety, employment standards in a salon.

Course content

NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing
Unit Titles

G1: Make sure your own actions reduce the risks to health and safety
G4: Fulfil salon reception duties (Optional)
G17: Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
G7: Advise and consult with clients
GH8: Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
GH9: Change hair colour
GH10: Style and finish hair
GH11: Set and dress hair
GH12: Cut hair using basic techniques
GH14: Perm and neutralise hair (Optional)

Level 3 Diploma in hairdressing for colour technicians
Unit Titles
- Units taught in addition to those already achieved at Level 2
Colour hair to create a variety of looks
Hair colour correction
Bridal Hairstyling
Provide scalp massage services
Display stock
Promote and sell products and services to clients

Entry requirements

By interview for Yr12; previous qualification in hairdressing at Level 1 an advantage but not essential.


Coursework is continual assessment throughout the year with no final external examination but some units do have an independent assessment paper that is marked internally

Financial information

Working in a salon or self employed as a mobile hairdresser.
