Hairdressing NVQ Level 3 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course will provide you with knowledge on the underlying principles of major hairdressing services and practical skills required to successfully carry out these services. 

Course content

You will study advanced units in the following: • Promotional Activities • Health and Safety • Consultation • Promote Services and Products • Creatively Cut Hair • Colour Hair • Creatively Style and Dress Hair • Hair Extensions • Colour Correction • Hair show, competitions or a photo-shoot • Work placements All LMC students will receive tutorial support. All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths, English if not already awarded an A*-C in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into Further or Higher education, training or employment. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and maths OR a Level 2 related qualification. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including practical and oral assessment, together with portfolio building and online testing

Financial information

You should also provide your own kit following progression from Level 2 but a new one will be available to order at an additional cost of £144.00 (approx.). Other expenses may include: • Uniform £47.00 • Balmain Hair Extension Kit £118.00 approx. • Level 3 hair kit £36.00 Possible trips and events that are available but not compulsory include: (This can be subject to change) • Salon International - £140.00 • Blackpool Hair Show - £15.00 Information will be given at personal interview. Financial support may be available, please contact Student Services for more information. 

Future opportunities

After completing this course you could go in to employment or self-employment. You may also decide to further your studies with the Level 3 Certificate in Salon Management.

Further information

On completion of this course you will receive City and Guilds Level 3 NVQ in Hairdressing, which is highly valued by employers.

You will be expected to undertake extensive home study on this course.
