Hairdressing(Advanced Technical) Level 3 Diploma at New College Durham

Course description

This course will enable you to develop competence in a broad range of work activities, including advanced technical work. Level 3 is ideal if you've worked in a salon as a junior member of staff and you need to demonstrate specialist techniques at a higher level to become a senior stylist or colour technician. In addition, the course requires you to demonstrate your capability to undertake additional responsibilities and the control and guidance of others.

Course content

The course may include the following units:   •

  • Provide colour correction services • 
  • Provide hairdressing consultation services •  • 
  • Style and dress long hair/style and dress hair using a variety of techniques • 
  • Create a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques • 
  • Colour hair using a variety of techniques
  • Functional Skills Maths and English
  • Smoothing and strengthening systems

As part of your study programme you will also undertake a work placement at an external salon, develop further employment skills that include CV writing, interview techniques and team working attributes, and further enhance your maths and English skills.

There is the option to study this course part-time. There will be continuous assessment throughout the course in the form of practical observation, oral questioning and written tests. You will also undertake an exam to demonstrate your competence practically and theoretical understanding.

Entry requirements

You will need an NVQ/VRQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or relevant qualification or industrial experience.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course can lead to self employment, working as a trainer or assessor and progression to the teaching profession.
