Games Design Level 2 at Northampton College
Our new programme in Games Design will provide you with an opportunity to begin your journey in the games design industry. Using industry software and hardware in our purpose built Mac suites will give you the best possible start. You will have the opportunity to create ideas for games, as well as study how games work. You will look at what people do in the games design industry and learn how to plan and market your game. By the end of the course, you will have a range of skills that will prepare you for your next step, as well as gaining transferable skills relevant to broader fields.Delivery methods will include practical workshop sessions on motion graphics, animation, web design and games testing. Classroom-based theory sessions are supported by IT and computer-based research, educational visits to industry trade fairs and other games industry-related events. And after studying the new BTEC Level 2 Games Design at Northampton College you will have the opportunity to further your aspirations by progression on to our Level 3 Games Design programme.The units covered in the course will include: - Digital games production - Digital games testing - Animation for digital media - Drawing from observation - Digital art for a media product - Digital media sectors and audiencesIn addition, if you have not yet achieved a Grade C in GCSE Mathematics and English, you will be required to attend lessons in these subject to enable you to achieve a Level 2 qualification at an appropriate grade to enable you to progress to Level 3 study.
Anybody with an interest in studying towards working in the games design industry.
Four GCSEs at Grade D including English and Mathematics or an appropriate Level 1 programme with Functional Skills.
Through internal and external assessment.
Progression routes include:- Level 3 90 Credit Diploma- Level 3 Extended Diploma- University- Web designer- Games designer- Marketing- TV or film
We would ask you to be prepared to pay for materials and trips at enrolment. The fee is currently £50 to cover trips during the year.
