Physical Education A Level at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School

Course description

This is a very popular and well delivered course. For the last 2 years we have been awarded by the ‘Good Schools Guide’ as the highest achieving Grammar school in England. The syllabus is produced by the OCR Board and has been accepted by universities and colleges nationwide as a recognised qualification for entry into higher education.

Units 

  • AS G451 - Anatomy & Physiology;Acquiring Movement Skills; Socio- Cultural Studies relating to participation in physical activity.
  • AS G452 - Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in Physical Education (practical coursework).
  • A2 G453 - Principles and concepts across different areas of Physical Education includes: Historical Studies in PE & Sport; Psychology of Sport; Exercise Physiology; Biomechanics.
  • A2 G454 - Practical coursework.

Entry requirements

For those studying GCSE Physical Education, the minimum requirement is grade A. Students who have not studied GCSE PE will be considered and the Head of PE will make an assessment to ensure a student is of comparable standard.

As there is a large biological content in the course, it is necessary that candidates have a good scientific background with at least a double B in Combined Science GCSE or a B in Biology and Chemistry in separate sciences. Students studying GCSE PE are expected to attain at least (70%) in the theoretical component of the course (this GCSE PE theoretical % is only made available on results day).

Candidates should also have a strong practical ability in their chosen sports. It is expected that they will be participating competitively in at least one of their chosen sports.
