Mathematics (Further) A-Level at Daventry UTC

Course description

This course is suited to students who have achieved an A or A* in GCSE Mathematics. It will suit students who enjoy the challenges and rigour of mathematics.
Less than 15 000 students in the UK sat this qualification last year and success in the course will give students a huge advantage in applications to University to study Mathematics and subjects with a high mathematical content such as Engineering, Sciences, Computing, Finance or Economics. Anyone with a Further Mathematics qualification can be identified as having excellent analytical and problem solving skills which will be well-regarded in many careers.

Course content

Further Mathematics is only available to students who have also opted to study Mathematics at A Level. It involves all of the normal A Level Mathematics modules and extends the study of Pure Mathematics, Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Mathematics. This will be a total of 12 modules.

Entry requirements

Students wanting to study Further Mathematics will need Grade A or A* at GCSE.


You will be expected to complete weekly work as with A Level Mathematics.
There are termly assessments and internal examinations throughout the course.
You will be examined in 6 modules at the end of Year 12 and then a further 6 modules for the A Level in Further Mathematics at the end of Year 13.
