Childcare and Education Level 3 - CACHE Level 3 Certificate at Exeter College
You will be taught through a variety of techniques including lectures, discussions, group work and practical activities. You will gain the skills to communicate with your peers, staff and children, to develop a range of academic skills and produce coursework to a high standard.
The course is divided into core and specialist units covering childcare related topics such as:
- Child development from conception to seven years
- Play and Learning
- Providing safe environments for children
- Observation, assessment and planning
You need at least five GCSEs at Grade C or above including English Language and Maths. You also require GCSE Science at Grade D or above. You will need a DBS check (Disclosure Barring Service) which will be undertaken as part of the application process.
The majority of the course is assessed through assignments and the professional practice units are assessed through work experience and production of a Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP). There are 365hours of assessed work experience which is a mandatory part of the programme. You will attend a range of organised work placements, working with a range of age groups including 2-3 years, 3-5 years and some experience of workingwith babies and key stage 1. There is also an externally assessed assignment for one unit.
You will need to pay for the following: trips and professional development opportunities approx. £105, DBS check approximately £44.00. Uniform (required to wear at work placement) approx. £46.00, course book (optional) approx: £20.00, general stationery including files and memory stick.

Successful completion of the course allows progression to year 2 and completion of the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator - EYE) or to consider working towards a childcare career or alternative college course.
