This is a BTEC course

In this course, we aim to develop students who show initiative, ideas, independence of mind, an ability to examine problems, and investigative skills.   These aims are met through:

  • getting information from different resources, e.g. textbooks, media, magazines and  the internet;
  • working individually, in groups and taking part in class discussions;
  •  building up reference notes from those supplied and from your own research;
  • carrying out background reading to keep up-to-date with modern business practice;
  •  industrial visits and speakers;
  • carrying out practical projects and completing assignments to build up a portfolio of assessed work.

 

Course content

Year 1 Unit 1 - Exploring Business Activity

Year 1 Unit 2 - Business Resources

Year 2 Unit 3 - Introduction to Marketing

Year 2 Unit 4 - Business Communication

 

1 Optional Unit per year

In addition to the four mandatory units, you will choose a further two optional units from a range of options that may include:

  •   Recruitment and Selection in Business   
  •  Aspects of Criminal  Law Relating to Business
  •  Creative Product Promotion                    
  •  Starting a Small Business

 

Entry requirements

If students have previously studied Business then they must have achieved a minimum Grade C GCSE in Business or a BTEC First Certificate/Diploma In Business Pass

Assessment

Internally Assessed through a portfolio of work.

Future opportunities

A large range of Business courses can be studied at University as a subject on its own or in combination with a very large number of other subjects. This course will give you a set of business skills and knowledge that will be directly relevant to business jobs. Good problem-solving and analytical skills developed by studying business lend themselves to a variety of different career possibilities
