Geography AS/A2 Level (Modular) at Anglo European School

Course description

Through the two years of the course students study a wide range of Geographical topics. The AS year gives students a broad overview whereas the A2 year allows students to look at specific topics in greater depth.


AS Courses in Lower Sixth:

Physical Geography:

Rivers, floods and management.

Coastal Environments.

Human Geography:

Global Population Change.


Health Issues

Geographical Skills.


A2 Courses in Upper Sixth:

Contemporary Geographical Issues:

Tectonics and their management.

Development and Globalisation


Geographical Skills and Issues Evaluation.

Entry requirements

Students should have obtained either a grade B or better in Geography or another Humanities if they did not take Geography.

There are some statistical tests required and therefore a grade B in Mathematics is desirable.


The course overall is 100% examination.

AS Course: Two examinations.

GEOG1 – Knowledge & understanding paper (70%)

GEOG2 – Fieldwork and skills paper (30%)

Percentages are for the AS only. Overall these need halving for the whole A Level course.

A2 Course: Two examinations.

GEOG3 – Understanding and synopticity paper (60% of the A2)

GEOG4A – Fieldwork and skills paper (40%)
