Introduction to Professional Cookery at The Maltings College

Course description

This course will introduce you to a career in the professional cookery industry, and allow you to progress to Level 2 qualifications.

You will bring your skills to life in our fully fitted training kitchens with your own individual cooking bay.

You are encouraged to gain part-time work in the hospitality industry to improve your practical skills.

We pride ourselves on not only our excellent facilities, but how we are small enough to know all our students’ names and their needs.

All our lecturers have many years of experience and training in the hospitality and catering industry.

Course content

You will be introduced to:

  • kitchen equipment
  • healthier foods
  • special diets
  • how to prepare foods and cook using different methods
  • food safety
  • different work skills

3 days working at college and 2 day on work experience.

Entry requirements

To apply for a Level 1 course you must meet all our minimum criteria, including a satisfactory reference. You must be able to demonstrate a passion and interest in your chosen course. 

 

Assessment

Practical demonstration / assignment.

Practical examination.

Financial information

Financial assistance for meals, transport, course uniform and equipment is available for students who meet the criteria set out by the DFE.
