French AS/A Level 3 at The John Wallis Church of England Academy

Course description

A two-year course made up of 4 units. Updated topics are studied from traditional and new media (including films, magazines and newspapers) and encourage students to communicate confidently, develop an awareness of the society and culture of French-speaking countries and to understand language in a variety of contexts.

30% Speaking test, 70% Written paper with Listening, Reading and Writing.
Unit 1: Speaking in French- Role Play and Topical Discussion.
Unit 2: Listening, Reading and Writing in French.
Unit 3: Speaking in French in French- Discussion of an article and a topic.
Unit 4: Listening, Reading and Writing in French.

Entry requirements

Grade C or above at GCSE

Future opportunities

In an increasingly demanding job market within the European Union, languages play a more important role than ever. When seeking employment, students with a language qualification beyond GCSE hold a definite advantage. Today, when English is no longer the most widely spoken language worldwide, monolingual English speakers may face a bleak economic future. Careers in interpreting and translating, teaching require, international business, customer services, sales, retail, leisure and tourism. You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in French, Languages or more general higher education courses.

With further training, you could go into a job related to French or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your French to study or work over in France. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector.
