Business BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate at Christ The King Catholic High School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The course is aimed at providing learners with a high level of understanding of many areas of business. The units studied will focus on many aspects and functions of business and those completing the course will have a high level of knowledge about how businesses work. As a vocational course, you will also develop your time management, indepedent working and organisational skills.

Course content

You will study six units in total, comprising of four compulsory core units, which cover the following topics: the business environment, business resource, introduction to marketing and business communication. The remaining two specialist units may cover topics from any of the following pathways: accounting, marketing, human resources, management, law, administration or retail.

Entry requirements

Route 1 - Not available

Route 2 - A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or BTEC/OCR at Merit or above

Route 3 - A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or BTEC/OCR at Merit or above

Assessment

You will build up a portfolio of coursework through assessment activities for units studied. These will be assessed by your class teacher and moderated by the examination board. There are no examinations on the BTEC Extended Certificate course. Each of the units will be graded at pass, merit or distinction. There is the possibility of an examination but this has not yet been finalised as of yet. The overall qualification will then be given an aggregated pass, merit, distinction or distinction* grade. It is equivalent to one A Level. 

Future opportunities

It will allow you to develop the skills on innovation, teamwork, problem solving, communication and evaluation. These are the skills that are essential to study, training and employment and are the skills that employers are constantly telling us that they are looking for in staff.

It can lead to employment in a variety of businesses from office administration to sales and marketing. 

Alternatively you could apply to university for a degree or similar level course, as this qualification provides clear progression onto a BTEC Higher National or business related degree. 

Whatever you decide to do next, a BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business will keep your options open.
